The 2021 Tour de France was won by Slovenian Tadej Pogacar of team UAE Team Emerates. He also won the 2020 addition, and at age 22 he could win many more. Another notable result in this edition was that Mark Cavendish tied (at least) Eddy Merckx's career record of 34 stage victories.
Stage 7 (7/02)
This long stage (250kM) was won by Slovenian Matej Mohoric. There were also changes in the general classification due to a large break winning ahead of the main peloton by multiple minutes.
Stage 6 (7/01)
A flat sprint stage won once again by Mark Cavendish (GrB). He now has 32 career stage wins in the Tour, closing in on the all time record of 34 wins, held by the legendary Eddy Merckx.
Stage 5 (6/30)
Today's time trial stage was won by last year's overall winner Tadej Pogacar (Slovenia). Current overall leader Mathieu Van der Poel managed to do just enough to retain his lead.
Stage 4 (6/29)
A flat day ending in the expected bunch sprint. Won by Mark Cavendish (GrB) from the Isle of Man. This was Mark's 31st stage win at the Tour de France (2nd place all time), and first since 2016 which marks an incredible resurgence in a career many though was long since over.
Stage 3 (6/28):
Another day marred by multiple crashes that affected both the general classification as well as the sprint for the stage win. The day was eventually won by Tim Merlier (Germany).
Stage 2 (6/27):
Around 50 riders made it to the final short climb at the end of today's stage. Mathieu Van der Poel, from the Netherlands, attacked with 750 meters to go to claim the stage victory and take the overall race lead.
Stage 1 (6/26):
Two huge crashes marred the first stage of this year's race. The stage was won by Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe with a solo attack up the final climb.
